Hello everybody and welcome to Yesterday’s Tomorrow!
This is a science fiction blog, but don’t let that
scare you away! Mad Max, Tomorrowland, Jurassic World, Terminator… Summer 2015
is chock full of science fiction movies. Though sometimes considered a genre
popular with a specific fanbase, science fiction is often a massive hit with
the mainstream. From Star Trek to The Hunger Games people are interested in
things that speculate about the future of humanity whether for better or worse.
Sometimes those speculations come true and sometimes
they don’t. I’ll be looking at a wide variety of science fiction movies and
stories and their predictions for our technological and social progression.
Some things won’t hold up and some things will. Some ideas will maintain relevance
to our modern questions of futurity and its relationship to humanity despite
outdated technology, language, etc.
You don’t have to be well versed in science fiction
lore to read this blog. For every work I examine I’ll prepare a synopsis (avoiding
spoilers where possible), extract the theme, and place the work in a discussion
with life and times in 2015. Things like this are always subjective so if
anyone ever has a point they’d like to dispute go right ahead. I love dialogue
(arguably only slightly more than I love rambling on my own)! If you don’t
already have a soft spot in your heart for good ol’ science fiction then I hope
this blog can give you a new perspective.
Love your title, Yesterday's Tomorrow. It's so true.
